Counseling Options from Military OneSource

Military OneSource Counseling Link

"Military OneSource is a free service provided by the Department of Defense to service members and their families to help with a broad range of concerns including money management, spouse employment and education, parenting and child care, relocation, deployment, reunion, and the particular concerns of families with special-needs members. They can also include more complex issues like relationships, stress, and grief. Services are available 24 hours a day — by telephone and online. Many Military OneSource staff members have military experience (veterans, spouses, Guardsmen, Reservists), and all receive ongoing training on military matters and military lifestyle. The program can be especially helpful to service members and their families who live at a distance from installation.
Military OneSource offers three kinds of short-term, non-medical counseling options to active-duty, Guard, and Reserve members and their families.

Military OneSource counseling services are designed to provide service help with short-term issues such as adjustment to situational stressors, stress management, decision making, communication, grief, blended-family issues, and parenting-skills issues." - Military OneSource

We at The Comfort Crew for Military Kids appreciate Military OneSource as a wonderful resource for our men and women of the armed forces, as well as their families. We are proud to partner with Military OneSource in the distribution of two of our resources: the With You All the Way! Dealing with Deployment Kit, as well as the Helping Military Children Handle Grief Kit.

Another one of the many resources Military OneSource provides is counseling, up to 12 sessions, for free. This is offered to service members, as well as family members.  Counseling can be of vital assistance during reintegration, as the Office of Veterans Affairs estimates that approximately 800,000 service members have returned with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) since 2001. While there is no easy answer for service members dealing with PTSD, speaking with a trained professional can be an important step on the road to recovery. We encourage all service members to take advantage of this great service, as well as the other services that Military OneSource provides!
